Change to believe in…

Life baffles me. In the news you hear about kids being arrested for bringing guns to a school nearby. A few years ago I read about a pastor was shot dead during an early morning worship service. You have to wonder, what is going on. Gone are the days of staying outside late listening to the crickets. Gone are the days of feeling safe at home, school, and especially at church. Where have all those safe moments gone?
It can’t be because there aren’t any more churches or Christians around. Within a 5 miles of my home, I can sit here and think of 5 churches. I’ve been on Facebook now for almost three months and I would be wiling to bet that most of the friends that I have on there are great Christian people. Do I live in such a secluded world that everyone outside my circle of friends aren’t Chistian? I don’t think so.
Could it be the change in the economy? I mean everything else going wrong is being blamed on the economy. The car makers apply for tax stimulus money and turn around and send execs on company trips. The banks apply for stimulus money and give their execs huge bonuses. And while we are on that subject, does anyone have one of those stimulus applications or know where to get one?
What about the new President? Wasn’t he supposed to solve all of our problems the very minute that he got into office? He is going to create jobs, solve the economic issues, heal the sick, etc. He has been in office just a little over a month now and I’m not seeing a lot of results there. Maybe he is too busy trying to walk on water. I just don’t see it happening. I heard it said that he will be the first one to throw up his hands and say “I quit!”
I know, the answer is winning the lottery. After all, recently it was up to over $200 million dollars. Take half of that for taxes, give your 10% and that still ads up to a lot of problems solved. The only problem with that is that its a temporary fix to a long term problem. Plus studies show that lottery winners often end up bankrupt losing their winnings and everything they had before their windfall. Trust me, it was hard not to buy a ticket this week but I knew that wasn’t the solution.
We all are looking for answers. We all are looking for a way out of this mess. We hear the word stimulus so many times during the day we are all waiting on the mail to run so we can take our check to the bank. We don’t need a check. We need change. Not change promised by a man wanting your vote but true change. Change that can be seen in our lives, in the lives of the children. We need…

“If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14, NKJV)

That’s not change you can get from man, but hope you can only get from God.

Now you might be thinking, thats easy for me to say. I have a job. I have a home, wife, 2 great families. True, I am blessed more than I deserve. Steph was one of the statistics in January that contributed to unemployment when her boss thought she would “be fair” to us and take away her job. I am proud beyond belief to say, we haven’t stumbled once. Sure money is tight with us but our faith is strong. God will, and has provided during this time. You see, we were in this same valley before. Our faith wasn’t as strong then as it is today. God allows struggles to happen in our life. Not because He wants us to suffer, but because when we come out of it on the other side, our faith grows stronger. I can look back on that time and see, we went through that time in our lives to prepare us for this.

Dear God,
I look around and I see so many people hurting. Jobs are lost, sickness, grief, loss. You are protecting us from this and providing our “daily bread.” Thank You so much for being in control. Help me to never lose sight of this and always know where True Hope comes from.
